Well because of going to Africa and then getting really sick as soon as I got home I have neglected to post the arrival of our sweet Anders. Hopefully every one has seen their blog about the whole event. He is so precious. He has been the best baby ever. I still haven't heard him cry. Welcome to the family

Our trip to Africa

On June 24th 2008 we set out for a long trip to Namibia, Africa. This is something Joel has wanted to do since he was a kid, and something I have wanted to do since reading lots of books about Africa. We flew from SLC to NYC (almost 5 hours), then to London (7 hours), then to Windhoek, Namibia (10 hours). With all of the layovers its about 40 hours. It is worth the trip. We went with a group of 6 hunters and me. Blake and his son Tanner from Centerville, Robert and his son Michael from Cedar City and Bryan from Richfield. We were headed to the Uhlenhorst farm. Our hosts were Hoekus van Niekerk Sr. and his wife Connie and their son Hoekus Jr. They picked us up at the airport and we drove one hour on a paved road and then another hour on a gravel road to get to their farm. It was a beautiful farm, beautiful home that they live in, and nice guest rooms for us. Our room was so cute, it was decorated with porcupine stuff. It was very comfortable and the family was wonderful to us.




Joel hunted everyday that we were there and had a great time. He got seven animals that will be shipped here when they are taken care of there. He is going to get them mounted here. I went out with the hunters two days and the others days I enjoyed relaxing and doing what ever I wanted. I became very good friends with Connie and spent most of the days with her. She is a really good cook and made all of our meals.

They took us out on the dunes one evening for a "sundowner". They built a fire and cooked our dinner. The stars were unbelievable! The Milky Way was amazing.







Connie has two cheetahs that she has raised with a bottle. They are wild. Connie just says "don't turn your back on them".

















We loved these giraffes that they have on their farm.
